Stand up paddle boarding is one the trendy water sports of this season and most probably an ancient surf style.
At the Ria Formosa Natural Park, stand up paddle adds a different dimension to it, allowing paddle surfers to float along the quiet narrow channels, on a guided tour with a local biologist on paddle board, to discover authentic fauna and flora surrounded by the vivid green of the vegetation that provided protected habitats for migratory birds such as flamingos, storks, herons, exotic purple gallinules and others.
For a more comfortable and relax tour, paddle boards can be replaced by kayaks (single or doubles).
Notes:
Combine an enjoyable bike tour around the Ria Formosa natural park with moments of relaxation on a traditional wooden fishing boat, sailing the calm waters.
A genuine experience, observing the migratory birds of the area, the local fishermen fishing or clam picking and enjoy the fantastic scenery of the canals, both by boat and bike.
Notes:
The activity takes place in the heart of the Natural Park of Ria Formosa, a protected lagoon for different species of fauna and flora.
Guided by a local biologist guide, this is an easy and relaxed ride along the natural park, one of the most beautiful areas and an opportunity to see sand dunes, salt pans, saltwater and fresh marshes where one can find the most fantastic diversity of migratory bird species, including rare species such as the Purple swamp-hen.
Along the way, you can also observe old Roman ruins and possibly the clam pickers activity from the lagoon margins.
